preRA: Off at Last
Jack, Linda, and I are off at last! Early departure, then IHOP breakfast this morning in west Phoenix. We hit the freeway parking lots around LA by early afternoon, then plowed our way up I-5 towards Sacramento. On the way we played “Name That Tune” with the satellite radio, and I learned that guessing “Slayer” or “Scotty McCreery” was a rewarding strategy. And let’s not forget about that oldies band called the “Flaming Os.” A long day in the car, around 12 hours and 680 miles.
Tonight we’re at a Best Western in Patterson, California. The three of us had dinner at the bar. The food here is surprisingly good, mine an apricot-chipotle marinated chicken. And we all became fans of extreme cage wrestling, well, for a few minutes anyway.
Linda is as excited as we are to be finally hitting the road – I’m really glad she is sharing the travel with us, and contributing so much to the trip.
Hi Rich and Jack,
Great start. We are vicariously living through your blog until Thursday. We did South Mountain today. Still riding in circles. My bike is in Anacortes waiting for me. See you soon.
Thanks Frank. A smooth start so far although we keep having to dig deep into our panniers for such things as toothbrushes or USB cords. You guys sound 110% ready to go. We too can’t wait to get started and can’t wait to join up with the full team.
hi guys,
the Memorial ride was a hit! 61 riders signed up and no one crashed going down Usery pass, it was only 77 degrees at the END of the ride!
All that green looks great up there in Oregon…have fun!
