Dive Journal: Today we have returned to the site known as the “Wrecks at Butler Bay” – see dive #239, located a bit north of the Fredericksted pier.

We first explore a 177 foot long freighter called the Rosaomira. This boat capsized while pumping ballast at the dock in 1986. Apparently the captain decided to hide the fact that he was smuggling diesel fuel from Venezuela, and the boat’s center of gravity, well, got off keel.

We then explore an 89 foot long tugboat called the Coakley Bay. This boat was donated by the Hess Oil Company and sunk in 1999.

Both boats are greatly intact and are fun to explore. Not much sea life around today, one big southern stingray.
